Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE--For the third time this season, the Asheville Tourists were blanked by an opponent. Sunday afternoon the Greensboro Grasshopper took their third straight from the Tourists, 7-0. Asheville has failed to score more than four runs in 18 of their last 20 games.
The Tourists will enjoy an off day Monday and kick off another seven-game road trip beginning Tuesday night in Greenville. Hopefully the off day will bring a fresh, ready to hit offense that was silenced Sunday by the Grasshoppers.
Asheville totaled five hits and sent just one over the minimum to the plate. Dustin Beggs pitched seven shutout frames. The Greensboro right hander picked off two runners, induced two double plays, and did not walk a batter. Alejandro Requena lost his streak of 26.1 innings without allowing an earned run come to an end when the Grasshoppers plated one in the third.
Greensboro added another in the fourth and two more in the fifth. A three-run top of the ninth salted the game away but the Tourists never really threatened to score. Matt Dennis, Kenny Oakley, and Julian Fernandez pitched well out of the bullpen.
The Tourists finished the month of April with a record of 11-14 and were 3-8 at home. History is on the Tourists side; however, as the only month Asheville had a winning record in last year was May.
