AppleSox Welcome Merchants for 2 Games

AppleSox Ready for Foe from Their Former League

The Wenatchee AppleSox will play host to the Everett Merchants of the Pacific International League (PIL) in a 2 game set starting on Saturday. Saturday's contest starts at 7:05, and Sunday its matinée baseball at Paul Thomas Sr. Field with opening pitch at 1:05. Sunday's game is sponsored by Sunny FM on Health and Wellness Night. There will be fun and informative booths set up by various health organizations in the Wenatchee area. Sunday is the only day-game for the AppleSox at home this season, so come out and enjoy the sunshine. The matinée will be sponsored by Clear View Janitorial.

The AppleSox are former members of the PIL. They joined the league for their inaugural season in 2000, and remained members until the formation of the West Coast League (WCL) in 2005. Wenatchee claimed the league title in 2003; and claimed division titles in ‘02 and '04.

Everett won back to back PIL titles in '00 and '01. Unlike the WCL which only features players with college eligibility the Merchants franchise is made up of former professional players, college graduates, and collegiate players. The Merchants have several notable former players who have made it to the major leagues such as Jeff Francis (Colorado Rockies), and Lyle Overbay (New York Yankees).

Marco Gonzales Goes in 1st Round

Cardinals Select Former AppleSox and Gonzaga Star

The AppleSox are proud to announce the selection of a former player. This year's MLB first year player draft has already seen 1 former AppleSox player selected and there could be more. Marco Gonzales (Gonzaga) who played for the AppleSox in 2010 was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 19th overall selection. This is the highest ever pick for an AppleSox player with the previous high being Clay Mortensen (Gonzaga) who was selected 36th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2007. It is highly likely that Gonzales will sign with the Cardinals, and will probably secure himself a lucrative signing bonus in the process. Gonzales will probably start playing for the Cardinals system with either a rookie ball or low A team, before beginning his climb to the big league club.
