Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - This time, the Rogues completed the comeback. After rallying in the opener last night only to give the game away, Medford held on after a three-run eighth inning to defeat the Bellingham Bells 4-2 on Thursday evening. With the win, the Rogues are now 1-1 in league play.
After four innings of scoreless baseball, the Bells put two on the board, thanks in part to a wild pitch and error committed by the Rogues.
Medford would rally though, beginning in the seventh. Matt Taylor singled to start the inning, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Corey Wynant. Bellingham pulled starting pitcher Nate Cole after the seventh and his replacement, Ian Buckles struggled.
Quentin Urban led off the eighth with a walk and stole second before A.J. Balta walked as well. Matt Page followed that up with a single that scored Urban and tied the game. A pair of wild pitches allowed Balta to score and put the Rogues ahead. The Rogues got an insurance run when Corey Wynant hit a sacrifice fly that scored Page.
Conner Harris pitched two and two thirds scoreless innings in relief and received the win. Bo Cornish, who had not pitched in a competitive game since high school yet had success in the exhibition game Tuesday, was summoned to pitch the ninth and got the save, ending the game by inducing a double play.
