Victoria HabourCats News Release
(Victoria, BC - June 7, 2013) The HarbourCats are thrilled to announce that Opening Day starter Nick Pivetta has been drafted by the Washington Nationals in the fourth round of the MLB Draft at number 136 overall today.
Pivetta's high draft position is a testament to the extraordinary talent in the West Coast League that Victorian fans will be treated to throughout the HarbourCats Inaugural Season.
Pivetta, standing 6'5" and weighing 215 pounds is most known for his fastball, which touches the low 90's. He also utilizes a curveball and a changeup in his pitching arsenal. Scouts rave about his large build, and could see him as either a starter or a late reliever when he reaches the big leagues.
After a solid sophomore season at New Mexico Junior College, where he went 9-2 with a 3.36 ERA over 83 innings, Pivetta started the inaugural game for the HarbourCats on Wednesday. The righty worked 8 solid innings, earning the first ever victory in team history in the process.
Tonight at Royal Athletic Park will be Swing in to Summer presented by Mike's Hard Lemonade where there will be exciting giveaways including hats, shirts, rally towels and Mike's Hard Lemonade Jerseys for fans. Fans will be able to sample both flavours of Mike's Hard Lemonade during the game tonight as well.
Tonight will be the on-field debut of the HarbourCats alternate light blue jerseys as well. Tickets are still available for tonight's game against the Kelowna Falcons when the HarbourCats will be going for the Season Opening sweep of their Canadian rivals.
