October 5, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have loaned right wing Eric Neilson to the Bakersfield Condors.
Neilson, 21, enters his first season as a professional after four years with Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 6'1", 201-pound native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, scored 19 goals and 35 assists over his major junior career. A teammate of NHL phenom Sidney Crosby for the last two seasons, Neilson led Rimouski in penalty minutes in three of his four seasons with Oceanic, including 2002-03, where he posted 341 PIMs in 53 games.
Last season, Neilson scored a career-high 13 goals and 13 assists and scored a goal and three assists in 11 playoff games as the top-seeded Rimouski won the QMJHL President's Cup championship. Neilson, a fifth-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, appeared in all five of Rimouski's 2005 CHL Memorial Cup games, including the title game against the OHL's London Knights.
"We're happy to see Eric come to our camp," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We think he can make an impact on our team."
This will be the second consecutive season in which the Kings organization has sent a forward and a goaltender to Bakersfield. Last year, left wing Connor James and goalie Yutaka Fukufuji were lent to the Condors and helped Bakersfield to the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Condors Open House and Family Day will take place at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center this Sunday, October 9th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Admission is free with the donation of two canned food items for the Salvation Army Food Pantry. Fans are welcome to skate with the team from 2:00 - 3:00pm. Fans can bring their own skates or rent them at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center for $3
