Andy Marte Named IL Batter of the Week

The International League today announced that Bisons infielder Andy Marte is the league's Batter of the Week for the period from June 4-10.

In eight games last week, Marte hit .462 (12-26) with three doubles, four home runs, 11RBI and a 1.038 slugging percentage. He hit safely in all eight games he played in and added five walks and five runs scored. Marte homered in consecutive games, June 6 and June 8, and went a perfect 3-3 with two doubles and a home run in yesterday's game one loss to Richmond.

The award comes almost a year after Marte collected his first Batter of the Week award with the Bisons. From June 12-18, 2006, Marte hit .346 (9-26) with five home runs and 12RBI to take home the honor.

It's also the Bisons second IL player of the week award in 2007. Sean Smith was named the Pitcher of the Week for May 14-20 (2-0, 0.79ERA).
