Amerks Sign Defenseman Blake Kessel to PTO Contract

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Blake Kessel to a professional tryout contract.

Kessel, 24, has appeared in 47 ECHL games this season with the Orlando Solar Bears and Bakersfield Condors, recording a total of 36 points (8+28) and 28 penalty minutes to rank fourth in scoring among ECHL defensemen. He has also played in three American Hockey League games this season with the Rockford IceHogs. In 101 career ECHL games with Orlando, Bakersfield and the Trenton Titans, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Kessel has recorded 77 points (16+61) and 62 penalty minutes. He has also played in 66 career AHL games with Rockford and the Adirondack Phantoms, collecting 22 points (3+19) and 12 penalty minutes. A native of Verona, Wisconsin, Kessel was originally selected by the New York Islanders in the sixth round (166th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
