Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-2 tonight to go 6-1-0 in their 11-day stretch of seven games. The Americans' record stands at 13-4-1 (27 points).
Allen took its quickest lead of the season when defenseman Chris Kaufman scored 17 seconds in the first on the Americans' first shot. Tobias Whelan and Justin Bowers followed that up with two more at 1:36 and 8:23, respectively. After Bowers' goal, Rio Grande Valley Coach Chris Brooks pulled goaltender Wylie Rogers and replaced him with Andy Franck.
The second had two goals, one from each team. Justin Bowers grabbed another one after he shoved a rebound in the net while Franck was still searching for the puck. At 17:52 Jesse Bennefield lifted the puck over Whitley's pad to give Rio Grande Valley its first goal. The period ended with a score of 4-1.
Killer Bees' defenseman Tom Sawatske had the lone goal of the third frame at 18:54.
Prior to the game, netminder Charlie Effinger was placed on goaltender injured reserve after James Hiebert's hit last night. Trey Boylan was signed to take his place.
Nino Musitelli extended his point streak to 12 games with an assist on Bowers' second goal. Bowers earned first star of the night, and Bruce Graham (2 assists) and Ryan Fairbarn (1 assist) were second and third stars, respectively.
The Americans host Rio Grande Valley Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Event Center and travel to Corpus Christi Saturday, Dec. 5.
