Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 29)- Donning their patriotic "Lady Liberty" sweaters Sunday afternoon, the Texas Brahmas were able to silence the Tulsa Oilers in a 3-1 victory at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
Things seemed more tame in the first period after the game the two teams had against one another on Friday in Tulsa when 112 penalty minutes were served (52 for Texas, 60 for Tulsa). Eleven shots a piece were faced by Brahmas netminder Brett Jaeger and Tulsa's Marty Magers.
The Brahmas found themselves two men down in the second, but quick forward Tyler Skworchinski eased the home crowd when he stole the puck and scored on the breakaway for his fifth of the season. Texas now sits atop the league with six shorthanded goals this year. A minute later Tulsa looked as if they had tied the game when the puck found its way to the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an errant high stick on the puck by the Oilers.
Texas increased their lead to two when Luke Sellars sent a pass to Grant Jacobsen and he found Anders Strome who sent the puck home for his second of the year. Strome collected his second in the game when Jason Reese fed him a pass from the corners for the 3-0 lead. Former Brahma, Aaron Davis was able to beat Jaeger to end his bid on the shutout, but it was not enough as the Brahmas defeated the Oilers 3-1.
The Brahmas host a mini-home stand beginning Friday, on Puck Night, at the NYTEX Sports Centre when they host the Corpus Christi IceRayz for a 7:05 PM faceoff. The first 1000 fans at the game will receive a free puck. On Saturday the I-20 rivalry on ice will heat back up when the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs pay a visit to the Brahmas at 7:05 PM. The Metroplex mayhem will occur Wednesday when the Allen Americans show up for a 7:05 PM start and the mini home stand concludes Friday, December 11 with the Brahmas annual Teddy Bear Toss against the Arizona Sundogs for another 7:05 PM. All fans in attendance are asked to bring stuffed animals to toss onto the ice following the Brahmas first goal in the game. All toys will be collected and donated to the Community Enrichment Center in North Richland Hills.
