The Allen Americans currently sit at second place in the CHL with a 13-4-1 record (27 points).
Game Recaps
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 25 vs. MIS (L 3-1): In the first meeting with Mississippi, the Americans suffered a tough loss after taking an early lead over the RiverKings and outshooting them 40-29. Nino Musitelli scored the Americans' only goal at 8:26 of the first to extend his point streak to nine games. Allen held Mississippi scoreless until 9:31 of the third when Landmesser scored on the power play. The RiverKings caught a break when a routine dump in the offensive end took an odd bounce and went straight to Louis Dumont. Dumount was able to put the puck in an empty net, as Chris Whitley was waiting for it behind the cage. Mississippi's Cam Severson would seal the game's fate when he scored on the power play with just over a minute left in the game.
FRIDAY, NOV. 27 @ ODE (W 5-4): The Americans traveled to Odessa to play the Jackalopes for the first time last night. In the high-scoring game, the Americans never trailed and had goals from Tobias Whelan, Bruce Graham, Mick Berge, Nathan O'Nabigon and Justin Bowers. Nino Musitelli had an assist on Berge's goal, which extended his point streak to 10 games.
SATURDAY, NOV. 28 vs. TEX (W 4-3 SO): The Americans defeated the defending champs in an intense battle. Netminder Charlie Effinger started the game in net after returning from the Texas Stars but left the game after a hit from James Hiebert in the first period. Justin Bowers, Kurtis Dulle and Nino Musitelli scored for Allen in regulation. Ryan Fairbarn scored the game-winning goal in the shootout after Bruce Graham and Bowers got pucks past Jaeger. The Americans never trailed in the game and brought the season series to 2-1.
SUNDAY, NOV. 29 vs. RGV (W 4-2): The Americans defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees after taking the quickest lead of the season when Chris Kaufman scored 17 seconds in the game. Tobias Whelan and Justin Bowers followed that up with two more in the first to take a 3-0 lead. Bowers grabbed another one in the second. Rio Grande Valley scored once in the second period and once in the third to come within two.
UPCOMING GAMES
FRIDAY, DEC. 4 VS. RGV at 7:30 p.m.: The Americans look for another win over the Killer Bees after defeating Rio Grande Valley last Sunday at the Allen Event Center 4-2. Rio Grande currently sits at 10-6-3 (23 points), which makes them third in the Southern Conference.
SATURDAY, DEC. 5 @ CRP at 7:05 p.m.: Allen travels to Corpus Christi for the last time this season to take on the IceRays for their fifth meeting. The Americans are 3-1 in the season series and beat Corpus Christi 4-0 in the last contest when Chris Whitley earned his first professional shutout at the Allen Event Center. The last time the team traveled to Corpus, they came home with a 2-1 victory. The IceRays are currently 7-8-2 (16 points) and seventh in the Southern Conference.
Bowers named Oakley CHL Player of the Week: Forward Justin Bowers was named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the week beginning Nov. 23. He had four goals and four assists for a total of eight points in four games, including two game-winning goals. One of his game winners was gave the Americans a 5-4 win over the first place Odessa Jackalopes. He was +5 for the week and continues to lead the team in points (25) and plus/minus (+10).
Dulle plays former team: Defenseman Kurtis Dulle plays his former team again Friday when the Americans host the Killer Bees. Dulle spent the 2008-09 season and two games this year with Rio Grande Valley.
Non-stop Nino: Forward Nino Musitelli is on a 12-game point streak that started Nov. 6 against Corpus Christi. He has scored 13 points during the 12-game stretch.
Roster moves: Prior to the Nov. 25 game against Mississippi, the Texas Stars of the AHL recalled goaltender Charlie Effinger. Effinger was the first American to get recalled by an AHL team in franchise history Oct. 30. He returned from his most recent call up Nov. 28 in time to start against the Brahmas. He left the game after the first period following a hit from James Hiebert and went on goalie IR later that night. The Americans signed Hugh "Trey" Boylan to take his place.
Defenseman Chris Kaufman was activated from IR Nov. 25 before the contest against Mississippi. Prior to his IR status, Kaufman's last game was Oct. 31 against the Brahmas.
Jarret Lukin, Jordie Benn and Mike Willemsen are all currently on 14-day IR.
