Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans made an amazing comeback on Wednesday night, rallying back from a 4-0 deficit to win in sudden-death overtime 5-4, and take a 2-0 series lead.
Drew Fisher stole the show in the opening period, scoring a natural hat trick for Tulsa including two power play goals to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, despite the fact that they trailed in shots 12-8.
The Americans went down 4-0 before they finally got on the board. Spencer Asuchak gets his third from Chad Costello and Greger Hanson, to cut the lead to 4-1. One minute and 59 seconds later the Americans scored again, this time Konrad Abeltshauser from Greger Hanson and Kevin Young and Allen was back to within two, headed to the third period 4-2.
Gary Steffes picked up his second of the post-season from Chad Costello and Aaron Gens at the 11:27 mark to make it a 4-3 game. It would remain that way until Konrad Abeltshauser fired home his second of the night at 14:29 to even the game and complete the comeback, and the score was tied 4-4 headed to sudden-death overtime.
Both teams had chances in the extra session, as both Joel Rumpel and Kevin Carr made huge saves. The game turned though on a blocked shot by Justin Baker that came back the other direction on a three-on-one break with a pass across from Konrad Abeltshauser to Greger Hanson, who put it in the net to give Allen an amazing come from behind win, 5-4 to take a 2-0 series lead.
Game 3 shifts to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Friday night at 7:35 pm. Game 4, also in Tulsa on Saturday night, at 7:35 pm. If the series moves back to Allen, it would be on Tuesday night at 7:05 pm.
