North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays square off against the Reading Royals in the opening round, the East Division Semifinals, of the 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs in a best-of-seven series starting Friday, April 17 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

2014-15 Season

South Carolina Stingrays:

The Stingrays wrapped up their 22nd season of hockey in the Lowcountry with a 45-20-1-6 record for 97 points finishing second in the East Division and earned the most wins in team history since the 2007-08 campaign (47). Under the direction of 2014 ECHL Coach of the Year and fourth-year bench boss Spencer Carbery, the Stingrays set ECHL records for the longest winning streak (23), longest road winning streak (13) and tied the record for the most consecutive games without a regulation loss (23). The Stingrays also finished the season scoring 224 goals, the most since the 2009-10 season and allowed 163 goals, the fewest in team history. Overall, the Stingrays boasted the best team defense in the ECHL with a 2.26 goals-against average and 25.99 shots-against average.

Reading Royals:

Reading closed its 23rd season as an organization (Columbus (Ohio) Chill from 1991-99) and 14th as the Royals with a 45-21-4-2 record and 96 points to finish third in the East Division. Before the Stingrays' record-setting winning streak during February and March, the Royals held the season's longest winning streak, claiming 12 straight victories from January 17-February 11. Reading finished the 2014-15 season fourth in the ECHL as the least penalized team averaging 13.39 penalty minutes per game.

Head to Head History:

The Stingrays battled the Royals three times in 2014-15 going 1-2-0-0 with one of the three meetings taking place at the North Charleston Coliseum. The two sides traded wins on December 6 and 7 at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania as the Stingrays took the opening contest of the season series 4-2 while Reading bounced back 2-0 the following night. The series closed on January 24 at the Coliseum with the Royals squeaking by 2-1.

Regular-Season History

South Carolina Stingrays:

With 22 seasons of hockey under their belt, the Stingrays are 2nd in the ECHL records books with 875 wins and third with 175 ties (overtime losses and shootout losses included). In 1,565 games played, the Stingrays hold an 875-515-175 record with the most successful regular-season taking place in 1996-97 (45-15-10, .714 winning percentage).

Reading Royals:

The Royals are enjoying their best seasons as an organization earning 44 or more wins in four of the last five campaigns and grabbed a team-record .688 winning percentage (46-19-3-4) in 2012-13. In 1,008 games over 14 seasons, the Royals are 529-384-32-63.

All-Time:

The Stingrays are 16-11-3 all-time against the Royals in the regular season dating back to the 2002-03 campaign. The two sides have met no more than three times total in each of the last three seasons and only four times at the North Charleston Coliseum in the last five seasons (16 total games).

Playoff History

The 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs marks the first time in history the Stingrays and Royals have met in the postseason.

South Carolina Stingrays:

The Stingrays hold a historical presence in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, making the postseason a league-record 21 times, appearing in 165 games (2nd in league history) and stand third in the ECHL records books with 84 wins and first with 81 losses. The Stingrays are tied for first in the ECHL with three Kelly Cup titles (1997, 2001, 2009) and are tied for second with three Kelly Cup Finals appearances. Entering this season's playoffs, the Stingrays look to snap the second-longest postseason losing streak (9 games: 1 game vs. Kalamazoo in 2012, 4 games vs. Gwinnett in 2013, 4 games vs. Wheeling in 2014) with their last playoff win coming on April 20, 2012 against Kalamazoo.

Reading Royals:

The Royals have clinched postseason berths in each of the last six seasons, 10 of their 14 campaigns, captured their lone Kelly Cup Championship in 2013 and tied an ECHL record with five overtime wins during the Cup run. Last season, the Royals fell to the Fort Wayne Komets in the opening round four games to one. Since forming as the Royals in 2001, Reading holds an all-time playoff record of 53-43. Including the Chill, they are 58-58.
