Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that the team will honor the First Family of Hockey in DFW, The Ludwigs, at a home game on March 24th.
The Ludwigs, Craig, Tyler and Trevor were all an important part of the early success of the Allen Americans organization. Craig Ludwig, who won two Stanley Cup titles over his long and successful career, raised a cup in Montreal in 1986 and in Dallas in 1999. He was a minority owner of the Americans during the 2012-2013 season, that saw Allen win its first Presidents' Cup Championship, defeating the Wichita Thunder in seven games. Ludwig also won two National Championships at the University of North Dakota.
Trevor Ludwig, son of Craig and twin brother of Tyler, joined the Americans during the 2011-2012 season. Trevor was a tough stay-at-home defenseman who played the game much like his father, blocking shots and clearing out the front of the net won three championships with Allen, starting with two Central Hockey League titles in 2013 and 2014 and then a Kelly Cup Championship in 2015. He won one junior hockey title with the Texas Tornado and a high school hockey championship with Grapevine High School in 1999.
"I was very fortunate to have played on so many teams with such talented players," said Trevor Ludwig. "The skill, dedication, passion, and most of all, the care my teammates had for each other is a huge part on why I was able to have a handful of successful seasons. The game of hockey is one of the most team-oriented sports there is. Every player and coach in the locker room is a piece of a complex puzzle. Everyone must be dedicated to the same goal in order to accomplish the ultimate challenge. I owe everything to my teammates for having the ability to call myself a champion. I know winning in any sport at any level is a rare thing to do and I am truly lucky to have accomplished that ultimate goal. Winning is a feeling I will always remember, especially because I was able to do so in my hometown. Even more rewarding is having the experience of winning alongside my twin brother and my father. I'm grateful for the opportunities this game has giving me, the friendships it has created, and the memories I will never forget.
Tyler Ludwig won three professional titles over his six-year playing career, all with the Allen Americans. Like twin brother Trevor, he won back to back championships in the Central Hockey League in 2013 and 2014 and was a part of the Americans first Kelly Cup Championship team that beat South Carolina in 2015. He was a part of the three Robertson Cup Championships in 2004, 2005 and 2006 with the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League and one high school hockey championship at Grapevine High School in 1999.
Combined, the Ludwigs have 17 championships at the High School, Junior, college and Professional hockey levels. No other family in Dallas/Fort Worth has won more hockey championships than the Ludwigs.
Come celebrate the First Family of Hockey in DFW on Saturday, March 24th, as we honor them for their accomplishments. More details will be made available in the coming weeks.
