Allen Americans News Release
BOSSIER CITY, La- In what was another competitive affair between two of the top teams in the Berry conference, the Allen Americans once again came out on top of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, this time by a score of 5-3.
The Mudbugs came hard out of the gates, looking to even the score after losing the night before to the Americans 6-4. Jamie Milam opened the scoring for the âBugs, scoring a power play goal 9:32 into the first period on a nice pass from Brett Smith.
The Americans got their own power play goal however, less than a minute later, when Nino Musitelli lit the lamp, with David Nimmo and Bruce graham getting the assists.
A scorching hot Mudbugs power play got on the board again late in the first, when Jeff Martens scored to give Bossier-Shreveport a 2-1 lead going to the locker room.
Both squads had a handful of chances on the power play during the second period, but were unable to cash in, leading to a decisive third period.
Justin DaCosta scored mid-way through the third to tie the game, but the âBugs quickly jumped back out ahead on another goal from Martens.
Shortly after Martens scored to make it 3-2, Tobias Whelan answered with a goal of his own, tying the game at 3.
Judd Blackwater buried a huge power play goal to put the Americans ahead for good with just 1:24 remaining in the contest, with Whelan and DaCosta receiving credit for the assists.
Jarret Lukin salted the game away, scoring an empty net bid with :34 seconds remaining to give Allen a 6-4 win.
The win moves Allen to 4-0-0 on the season, and slots them alone atop the Berry Conference early in the 2010-11 season.
Head Coach Dwight Mullins will now take his crew to Wichita, where his Americans will take on the Thunder, with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05 .
