ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans earned a point tonight in a 3-2 overtime loss to Southern Conference foe Amarillo. The Americans are now 26-9-3 (55 points).

Allen, fresh off a 4-1 win over the expansion Missouri Mavericks last night, found themselves down after only three minutes of play Friday when Gorilla Jake Obermeyer put one past goaltender Charlie Effinger from the top of circle. A little over a minute later, forward Bill Loupée deflected a shot from defenseman Kurtis Dulle to tie the game. The Gorillas regained the lead on a tipped shot of their own from Jason Chafe. The Americans then killed off a 5-on-3 to stay within one of Amarillo.

The Americans cranked up the heat in the middle frame, getting 21 shots on net. At 9:58 Tobias Whelan deflected a shot from Colton Yellow Horn to score his twelfth goal of the season to tie the game at two.

Neither team could score in the third period, but both teams pressured the goalies plenty. Allen had 13 shots, while Amarillo fired off 14. The two teams, deadlocked at two goals apiece, headed to overtime.

Less than one minute into overtime, Neil Smith was able to shoot one past Effinger to give the Gorillas the extra point.

Effinger made 34 saves on the night, while Amarillo netminder Tuomas Lohtander stopped 43 shots.

To wrap up three games in three nights, Allen hosts Bossier-Shreveport Saturday night at 7:30 p.m at the Allen Event Center. The first 2,000 fans will receive free koozies compliments of AT&T/LG.
