Thinel's Two Goals Leads to Odessa's 30th Win of the Season

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - Sebastien Thinel scored a pair of goals as the Odessa Jackalopes topped the Arizona Sundogs, 3-1, on Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center. The win was career number 498 for Odessa head coach, Paul Gillis. The Jackalopes become the first CHL team to reach 30 wins this season with a 30-6-3 record.

The Jacks took control of the game with three unanswered goals in the second period. Jeff Pierce put the Jackalopes on the board with his 19th of the season on a centering feed from Sebastien Thinel at 4:43. Thinel then netted his pair of goals with a penalty shot at 6:56, and a centering pass from Pierce on the right-wing side at 9:52. Odessa held the 3-1 advantage after two periods of play.

Arizona opened the scoring with the first period's only goal. A centering pass from the left wing corner deflected off the skate of a Jackalopes player and in the net to give Chad Hinz a power play goal at 14:26 and Arizona a 1-0 lead entering the break. The first period was a penalty laced as the two teams combined for seven power plays, four for Arizona and three for Odessa.

Neither team scored in the third period.

The win was Juha Toivonen's 15th of the season as he stopped 29 of 30 shots in net for Odessa. Thinel's multi-goal game was his first since February 28th of last season, when he scored three against Amarillo. He finished the night with three points to lead all skaters.

The Jackalopes close their three-game set against the Sundogs on Saturday. Game time is set for 8:05 PM Central. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
