
Bucks Drop Wild One In Colorado 6-4

LOVELAND, CO- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Colorado Eagles 6-4 Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. The loss snaps the Bucks two-game road winning streak as they fall to 17-13-7 (41 points). Laredo remains two points behind Texas for third place in the Southern Conference.
Aaron Schneekloth had a hat trick and an assist to help Colorado improve to 24-8-3.
With the game tied at 3-3 in the third period Colorado took advantage of a two-minute five-on-three power-play as they scored twice in just 1:14 to take a 5-3 lead. Ed McGrane jammed home a rebound with 6:50 left to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead with Schneekloth scoring on a slap shot from the point to make it 5-3 with 5:36 left.
Darryl Smith cut Colorado's lead to 5-4 with 1:58 left with the Bucks on a power-play having an empty net. The goal was Smith's second of the game and team-leading 20 of the season.
Ryan Tobler notched an empty net goal with 56 seconds left to make it 6-4 Colorado.
Smith tied the game at 3-3 just 8:44 into the third period when he scored from the top of the left circle.
The Bucks were outshot in the game 42-27.
The Bucks jumped out in front of the Eagles for the third game this season as they took a 1-0 lead 7:53 into the first. Curtis Billsten scored from the bottom of the right circle after he picked up the puck at the blueline. Billsten, who has scored a point in seven of his last eight games, picked up his fourth goal of the season.
Colorado tied the game at 1-1 with 6:20 left in the first period when they struck on the power-play. Steve Haddon took a pass from Bret Lutes and scored at the bottom of the left circle to tie the contest. Haddon has 13 goals on the season.
The Bucks were outshot in the first period 12-7.
Colorado took a 2-1 lead 5:27 into the second when Schneekloth took a pass at the bottom of the slot and scored on a wrist shot.
The Eagles would increase their lead to 3-1 with 32 seconds left in the second period when Schneekloth scored from the point on a four-on-three power-play. The goal was Schneekloth's second of the game and 14th of the season.
The Bucks would cut the Eagles lead to 3-2 just 14 seconds later when Jeff Bes tipped in Jarred Mohr's slap shot from the point to pick up his team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Laredo was outshot in the second period 14-9.
Mike Mole stopped 23 of 27 shots he faced while Pier Pelletier set aside 36 of 41 shots in the Bucks net.
There were a total of six fights in the game as the two teams combined for over 100 minutes in penalties.
The Bucks will close out their three-game road trip in Rapid City on Saturday night.
