SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Ryan Held scored a pair of goals to lead the Mississippi RiverKings to a 4-2 Central Hockey League (CHL) victory over the Missouri Mavericks on Friday, January 22nd, at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

The win moved Mississippi to 18-15-4 for the season and within four points of third place Bossier-Shreveport in the CHL Northern Conference race. Missouri fell to 17-18-3 for 37 points and fifth place in the CHL North.

Missouri took a 2-0 lead in the second period on a power play goal from Jeff MacDermid and Jeff Christian, who increase his season-long point streak to 14 games with his 21st goal of the year with 3:17 left in the second period.

However, the RiverKings were down only by one goal when the second intermission horn rang, as Held scored his first of the night (and 18th of the season) on a power play tip-in past the Missouri goaltender with 1.5 seconds left in the period. That score made the count 2-1 Missouri after forty minutes.

Mississippi tied the game within the first five minutes of the third period on another power play goal, this time by Bobby Chaumont at 4:45. Chaumont netted his 14th goal of the year.

The eventual game-winning goal of the night came with just over three minutes remaining in the third period. Forward Anders Strome drove home a shot from the left side that beat the Mavericks' netminder for Strome's eighth tally of the season and his third game-winning goal. Strome has now scored three goals in his last three games with the RiverKings.

Held provided the final insurance goal after Missouri had pulled their goaltender in the final seconds for a sixth attacker. Getting the puck from fellow forward Darrell Stoddard, Held skated in and parked the puck into the empty net for the final margin.

It was the RiverKings second come-from-behind victory in 14 similar situations this season.

Mississippi out shot the Mavericks 27-22 for the night, including 15 shots in the final period. Mark Sibbald was the winning goaltender for the RiverKings in his first Mid-South appearance with a 20-save effort, while Gerry Festa took the loss in the crease for Missouri with a 23-save performance.

The RiverKings scored twice on the power play, while the Mavericks scored once with the man advantage.

Mississippi played Friday night with forward Kevin Jarman on injured reserve and returning defenseman Dane Marshall to the active roster. Goaltender Tim Boron was also placed on leave of absence to open a roster spot for Sibbald, who came from Huntsville of the Southern Professional Hockey League and has also played one game for Laredo this season.

Sibbald signed a five-game contract with the RiverKings.

Mississippi hosts Missouri again Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center, starting at 7:05 PM. It's Ducks Unlimited/Pack the House, Arena White Out night with fans encouraged to come wearing white.

A jersey auction and post-game skate will also be featured. Fans can also give to the Compassion International Haitian earthquake relief fund at the door, with all money going to Haitian earthquake victims.
