Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans celebrated the new year by defeating the Colorado Eagles 5-1 at the Allen Event Center tonight. The win against the Northern Conference leaders advanced their record to 21-7-2 (44 points).
The first period was scoreless, as Allen held off a good-looking Colorado team. Netminder Chris Whitley played well, stopping 18 shots. The period was the first time that neither team has scored a goal in the opening frame at the Allen Event Center.
Allen picked up its game in the middle period, swarming the net with 16 shots on goal. The scoring chances paid off when Nino Musitelli nabbed his eighth goal of the season at 2:20. The one-goal lead only lasted for four minutes. Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth scored off of a shot from the point right as the Americans finished killing off a penalty at 6:08. Allen would regain the lead after Captain Jarret Lukin backhanded the puck past Colorado goalie Andrew Penner at 8:11. The Americans then increased their lead to two once defenseman Ryan Fairbarn stuffed a rebound into the net at the 12:03 mark. The score after two periods was 3-1.
The Americans continued to light the lamp in the third. First, Lukin fed forward Colton Yellow Horn in the slot, who scored with a one timer at 9:25. Then, Nathan O'Nabigon beat Penner with a backhand shot after a deke at 14:54 to make the final score 5-1.
Whitley looked great in net and made 43 saves on the night.
Allen hosts Laredo tomorrow night (Jan. 2) to wrap up their three games in three days stretch. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
