The CHL wrapped up 2009 and the month of December with seven games last night including a battle between the two teams with the highest winning percentages in the month of December, the Odessa Jackalopes and Texas Brahmas. The Jacks won the game 4-2 behind two goals from Kory Karlander. Other top teams in the month of December are the Colorado Eagles and Rapid City Rush, both finishing 10-2-0, as well as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs who went 8-3-1 in December and the Allen Americans who finished up 7-3-1. At the other end of the spectrum, the Wichita Thunder finished the month at 0-11-1 and the Tulsa Oilers wound up 4-8-0.
CHL All-Decade Team
The league introduced its All-Decade Team this week with the First Team consisting of forwards Greg Pankewicz, Jeff Bes and Travis Clayton, defensemen Derek Landmesser and Bernie John and goaltender Ken Carroll. The Second Team is made up of Don Parsons, Jason Duda and Riley Nelson at forward slots, Hardy Sauter and Aaron Schneekloth as defenseman and Rod Branch as the goaltender.
2010 All-Star Game Around the Corner
The 2010 CHL All-Star Game is coming up on Wednesday, January 13 in Laredo, Texas at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The rosters for the teams were announced this past week with the format of this year's game featuring a South Texas team of all-stars comprised of players from the host team Laredo Bucks, the Corpus Christi IceRays and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees taking on a team of CHL All-Stars from the remaining 12 teams. The starters for the South Texas team are Laredo's Darryl Smith (forward), Adam Rivet (defenseman) and Jean-Philippe Levasseur (goaltender), Corpus Christi forward Justin Quenneville and Rio Grande Valley forward Jesse Bennefield and defenseman Nathan Ansell. The CHL team is made up of forwards Rob Hisey (Tulsa), Riley Nelson (Colorado) and Justin Bowers (Allen) along with defensemen Aaron Schneekloth (Colorado) and Alex Dunn (Odessa) and goaltender Joel Martin (Odessa).
All-Stars Making Noise in the AHL
A pair of CHL All-Stars are currently on call-ups with the American Hockey League as both Rob Hisey (Tulsa) and J.P. Levasseur (Laredo) are on the roster of the Springfield Falcons (top affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers). The Falcons have not had much success this season sitting in the basement of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with a 10-18-7-2 record but Hisey made an immediate impact scoring a goal and adding an assist in his first game (a 3-2 OT loss to Providence) and then scoring a goal in his team's loss on the very next night. Levasseur has not had the results in the win/loss column as he did with the Bucks losing eight straight starts in the AHL. He is 17-31-5 all-time in the AHL playing in parts of three seasons in the league.
