Gorillas begin 2010 with comeback win in Odessa

Odessa, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas earned their first third-period comeback victory on Friday night, dropping the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3.
The only goal of the first period was notched by Odessa forward Jean Bourbeau midway through the period. Bourbeau glided across the Amarillo line and shot his wrap-around, back-handed effort past Gorillas netminder Tuomas Lohtander. Amarillo went 0-for-2 on the power-play, ending the first period down 1-0.
The Gorillas couldn't cash in on three power-play opportunities in second period, while the Jackalopes scored once at even strength. Two-time CHL All-Star Dominic Leveille notched his tenth goal of the season with four minutes remaining in the frame, giving Odessa the 2-0 lead after two periods of play.
Amarillo worked their magic in the third period, scoring a total of four times. David Nimmo & Stuart MacRae each scored only 2:13 into the period to tie the game at two. Kenny Bernard and the Jacks took the lead back with one minute later, scoring on the power-play. Jason Beeman fired home an Erik Felde pass for his eight goal of the season midway through the frame to re-tie the game at 3. The Gorillas received back-to-back-to-back power-play opportunites and cashed in with less than five minutes to play (David Nimmo's second goal of the game) giving Amarillo the 4-3 edge. Odessa had a shot to tie the game on the power-play in the final seconds, but Amarillo stoned any attempt. Final score, Amarillo 4 Odessa 3.
It's Amarillo's first win on New Year's Day...With 2 goals, David Nimmo has three straight games with 2 goals to his credit...After not scoring a point on the road in December, Jason Beeman registered a third-period marker.
