Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has acquired 19-year-old defenseman Paul Sohor from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for 17-year-old forward prospect Zach McPhee.
Sohor (pro. So-horr), listed at 6'1 190 pounds, has appeared in 13 games for Everett this season, collecting 20 penalty minutes. Now in his third WHL season, the East St. Paul, Manitoba-native has appeared in 109 WHL games - all with the Silvertips - totaling six points and 82 penalty minutes. Originally a fifth round (98th overall) pick by Everett in the 2006 Bantam Draft, Sohor made his WHL debut on February 22, 2008 vs. the Spokane Chiefs after appearing in 54 games for the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, where he collected a goal and nine points.
"Paul is a solid, stay-at-home defenseman who will provide us depth for the second half of the season," detailed Tory. "We look forward to seeing what he can do in an Americans uniform."
McPhee, a 6'3 190 pound right wing, was drafted by Tri-City in the sixth round (132nd overall) of the 2008 Bantam Draft. From Vernon, BC, McPhee spent the 2009-10 season with the Okanagan Rockets of the British Columbia Minor Midget League, playing in 36 games while totaling 13 goals, 39 points and 38 penalty minutes. Earlier this season, McPhee made his WHL debut with Tri-City, appearing in eight games and collecting a goal before being reassigned to the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League.
"We wish Zach all the best with the Everett organization and thank him for the time he spent with our club," Tory continued.
Sohor is expected to be in the Americans' line-up when Tri-City hosts the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday, December 10 in the first of a home-and-home doubleheader between the division rivals. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center before shifting to ShoWare Center on Saturday. Tickets are available through all Ticketmaster outlets including all Fred Meyer outlets, the Toyota Center box office, or online at ticketmaster.com. The game will also be broadcast live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Savings Bank Warm-up Show at 6:45 p.m.
