Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

The Brandon Wheat Kings will have a familiar face in the lineup Wednesday night when they kick off a 3-game Western Hockey League home stand against the visiting Everett Silvertips.

19-year old center Brayden Schenn, who was returned to the Wheat Kings over the weekend by the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings, will be making his 2010-11 debut at Westman Place.

Schenn made his regular season debut with the Wheat Kings in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Central Division leading Rebels in Red Deer. In addition to scoring his first goal of the season, he set up Scott Glennie for Brandon's other score.

With Schenn scheduled to leave for Team Canada's Selection Camp this weekend, Wednesday's game against the 'Tips will be western Manitoba hockey fans only chance to see him before the start of this year's World Junior Championships in Buffalo on Boxing Day.

A 3-year WHL veteran, Schenn signed an NHL Entry Level contract with Los Angeles last spring and has spent the first two months of the regular season with the Kings, with the exception of a two week conditioning assignment in the American Hockey League.

A member of last year's Silver Medal winning Canadian team at the World Junior Hockey Championships, the 19-year old Saskatoon product helped to lead Brandon to within one win from the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship.

In 59 games last season, the 6' 195 lb center scored career highs in goals (34), assists (65) and points (99). During his three years in Brandon, he has scored 95 goals and 260 points in 196 career WHL games.

A first team Eastern Conference All Star in 2009-10, Schenn played eight games with the NHL's Kings this season, picking up two assists. While skating with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs last month, Brayden had three goals, 7 points and four penalty minutes in seven games.

Schenn and the Wheat Kings will be hoping to snap two losing streaks on Wednesday. In addition to riding a 9-game (0-8-1) losing streak overall, Brandon has dropped four straight games on home ice.

The first 2,000 fans attending Wednesday's game will receive a "free" Burger King Whopper.

Saturday's game against the Ice features the 2010 Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss, while Sunday's game is the first of two Rain Check games of the season.
