Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Amarillo, TX) - Amarillo's Mike Brown made 42 saves in net for the Amarillo Gorillas to preserve a 2-1 win over the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday night at the Amarillo Civic Center.
Amarillo's Joe Guenther scored the only goal of the first period when he slapped a bouncing puck in the right circle past Jacks' goaltender Joel Martin to make it 1-0.
The Jackalopes inherited four power play opportunities in the second period but could not capitalize as neither team scored. After two periods the score remained 1-0.
The third period brought chances for both teams as Martin stopped Jake Morissette on a penalty shot. Dominic Leveille put Odessa on the board after deflecting a centering pass from Kenny Bernard in. Amarillo pulled ahead for good as Joe Guenther slipped a backhand shot from the right circle past Martin to give Amarillo the 2-1 lead.
Odessa pulled the goalie for a last effort, but 2-1 would be the final.
The Jackalopes return home where they'll host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Tuesday at the Ector County Coliseum. Game time is 7:05 PM and the game can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
