Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas were unable to secure their first victory on Tuesday afternoon, falling badly to the Laredo Bucks by a score of 6-0. For the third straight game the Gorillas only dressed four defenseman, as they continue to wait on a handful of players who will be added to the lineup once proper documentation is in place. Dan Bauer made his first professional start in net, making his Gorillas debut in front of 3,000 plus local kids who attended the game from AISD and surrounding schools as part of the Amarillo Gorillas Kids Day Game.
The scoring started in the first period when Matt Summers scored his first professional goal on a re-direction in front of the net. Despite being outshot 11-4 in the period, Amarillo would escape any further damage, leaving the period trailing by a score of 1-0.
Laredo would continue to carry the pace of play in the second period, adding goals from opening weekend's CHL player of the week James Hiebert, as well as one from Chris Korchinski. Laredo outshot Amarillo in the period by a total of 8-6, and the Gorillas once again faced a deficit going into the third and final period. In their first three games this season, Amarillo has yet to carry a lead for any amount of time, battling from behind in every contest.
The Bucks would continue to pile it on in the third period as Adam Rivet and Brent MacSween tallied goals at 3:15 and 7:33 respectively, and Matt Summers would add his second goal of the game at 13:01.
For the contest, the Gorillas were out-shot by a margin of 14-28. Amarillo had plenty of opportunities to score however, as they were awarded 10 power plays but could not generate any offense from them. Laredo went 3-7 with the man advantage.
Up next, the Gorillas hit the road for the first time this season, as they head to Hidalgo, TX to take on the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday night (26th) and then to Laredo to try to extract some revenge against the Bucks on Saturday night (27th).
