Scorpions To Build A Playhouse

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-As the New Mexico Scorpions get ready for their first road trip of the season this weekend, they already know that when they return home, they will help build a "home." On Saturday and Sunday the Scorpions' players, staff, coaches and Stanley will partner up with Greater Albuquerque Habitat For Humanity Playhouse Community Project.

Saturday the players will be in Odessa, but most of the Scorps staff will be at Coronado Mall throughout the day starting the construction of the 10' x 10' Scorpions themed playhouse. Sunday, players, coaches and Stanley will be at Coronado Mall at Sears Court, from 1-3 p.m., finishing the project.

The playhouse will be painted in Scorpions team colors and include hockey sticks on the roof. In addition, the window trim will be made of pucks and hockey nets will accent the porch.

The finished product will be on display at the mall until November 2nd. The playhouse will be auctioned off at a future Scorpions game with proceeds donated to Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity.

Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity builds community one home, one family at a time. By making it possible for low-income families to own simple, decent, affordable homes. Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing.

The Scorps head out for the first road trip of the season. The three game two city journey starts Thursday and Friday in Austin and ends Saturday in Odessa. Thursday's game begins at 6:38 p.m. and can be heard on 1050 KTBL. Friday's came will be broadcast on 610 The Sports Animal with Saturday's game back on 1050 KTBL.
