North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Centre Mike Amadio has been named captain of the North Bay Battalion, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Thursday.

Amadio, a 19-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, succeeds defenceman Marcus McIvor to become the third captain in the Battalion's North Bay history. Barclay Goodrow, who also served as captain in the club's 15th and final season in Brampton, was the first, in 2013-14.

Defenceman Miles Liberati, right winger Mathew Santos and rearguard Kyle Wood were named as alternates.

In 195 OHL games over three seasons, Amadio, six-foot-one and 192 pounds, has scored 42 goals and earned 86 assists for 128 points. He had 24 goals and 47 assists for 71 points in 68 games last season.

Amadio, who returned Wednesday from the Los Angeles Kings' National Hockey League training camp, was a third-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft after having been chosen by the Battalion in the second round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection from the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars major midgets.

"He's been here four years," said Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach. "He's turned himself into a good player. He's definitely one of our top guys."

Liberati, a 20-year-old native of Cheswick, Pa., who measures six feet and 195 pounds, enters his fourth OHL season and his second full campaign with the Troops since being acquired in a Nov. 19, 2013, trade with the London Knights.

In 174 OHL games, he has 23 goals and 37 assists for 60 points. A seventh-round choice by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2013 NHL Draft, he was chosen by London in the third round of the 2011 OHL Priority Selection from the Pittsburgh Vipers under-16 team.

Santos, also 20, has played three seasons with the Battalion, scoring 24 goals and adding 34 assists for 58 points in 187 games.

The six-foot, 191-pound Toronto native was signed as a free agent on Sept. 1, 2012, after a season in which he was the leading scorer for the Vaughan Kings major midgets and led Michael Power-St. Joseph to a provincial secondary school title.

Wood, a 19-year-old resident of Waterloo, Ont., has 19 goals and 35 assists for 54 points in 116 OHL games over two-plus seasons, including 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points in 67 games in 2014-15. He was a third-round choice in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection from the Waterloo Wolves minor midgets.

A third-round selection by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2014 NHL Draft, Wood, six-foot-five and 217 pounds, underwent hand surgery in Denver during the offseason and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

The Battalion opens the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts the Peterborough Petes.
