67's Drop Close Season-Opener in Peterborough
September 24, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
The Ottawa 67's opened the 49th season in franchise history with a trip down Highway 7 to Peterborough, but emerged on the short end of a 5-4 decision to the Petes at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
Ottawa rookie defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer scored with just over five minutes remaining in regulation to get the 67's to within one, but the Petes got an empty-netter by Eric Cornel to secure the win for the Petes.
Second-year forward Travis Barron countered with 15 seconds left to give the 67's a glimmer of hope, but it was just too late for the Barber Poles, who couldn't manage the equalizer with such little time remaining.
The 67's outshot the Petes, 35-26; Ottawa goalie Liam Herbst made 21 saves.
Ottawa travels to Mississauga and meets the Steelheads on Friday night at the Hershey Centre before returning home for the TD Place opener for the 2015 season on Sunday, September 27 against the Barrie Colts. Face-off is at 3 p.m.
Tickets are available at the 67's website, or by calling 613-232-6767, ext. 1.
