Altoona Curve News Release
Altoona Curve (0-3) at Erie SeaWolves (3-0)
Saturday, April 10 - 1:05 p.m. First Pitch
Jerry Uht Park- Erie, PA
Game #4 Road Game #4
RHP MIKE CROTTA (NR) vs. RHP BROOKS BROWN (NR)
LAST NIGHT: Right-hander Jared Hughes tossed six no-hit innings for the Altoona Curve but it wasn't enough. For the third night in a row, the Erie SeaWolves scored late in the contest and came away with the win. A two-run triple by Erie's Max Leon in the bottom of the seventh inning was enough to power the 'Wolves past the Curve, 2-0 on Friday night. Shawn Nottingham suffered the loss for the Curve.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS: Altoona's Mike Crotta will make his first start of the season tonight. The 6'6" righty spent the entire 2008 season with the Lynchburg Hillcats. Crotta made his Double-A debut on the Fourth of July in 2007, while making a spot start against Trenton. Crotta suffered the loss, lasting just 2.2 innings
The 'Wolves will send right-hander Brooks Brown to the mound. The 23-year old was selected in the first round of the 2006 draft (34th overall) out of the University of Georgia by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Brown spent the last two seasons with the Double-A Mobile Baybears of the Southern League and was dealt by Arizona to the Detroit chain in order to keep their Rule V selection, James Skelton.
FRIDAY TRANSACTIONS: RHP Derek Hankins was placed on the Disabled List (stomach illness)...RHP Juan Mateo was promoted to Indianapolis (AAA)...RHP's Josh Hill and Jean Machi were received from State College (A)...Hill tossed a scoreless inning of relief last night.
75 STRONG: Last night former Curve right-hander Ronald Belisario, who spent the entire 2008 season as a late-inning reliever for the Curve, had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday. Belisario becomes the 75th player in Curve history to make it to the majors. Belisario pitched for Altoona the past two seasons, going 1-0 with a 3.28 ERA in 2007 and 4-4, 4.74 in '08.
CURVE/ERIE SERIES: Tonight is the fourth of 25 meetings between Altoona and Erie. With the unbalanced schedule in the E.L., Erie will be the Curve's most common opponent in 2009. In 2008, Altoona sported an 11-7 record against the SeaWolves to run the all-time mark against their Southern Division rival to 96-101.
LET'S NOT GO THERE: With a victory tonight, the Altoona Curve would prevent themselves from starting a season 0-4 for just the first time in franchise history...With last night's loss, the Curve's 0-3 mark is the third time they've dropped three-straight to start a season. Both of those years (2001 & 2008), the Curve finished with their worse marks in franchise history -- 63-79 ('01) and 65-77 ('08).
