Erie SeaWolves News Release

ERIE, Pa - For the fourth straight day Erie found a way to win another close ballgame against Altoona, defeating the Curve 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.

Both starting pitchers would throw five scoreless innings and not factor into the decision. Mike Crotta threw five strong innings for the Curve, allowing just five hits, no runs, no walks, and recorded three strikeouts.

All the games scoring came in the sixth inning. Altoona (0-4) struck first in unconventional fashion as Jonel Pacheco singled, advanced to second on a balk, then to third on a wild pitch, before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Pedro Lopez. Erie (4-0) would not take long to answer as Brennan Boesch led off with a double, and then scored on a Ryan Strieby double. Strieby would score the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Frazier later in the inning.

The loss puts Altoona at 0-4 for the first time in the club's 11 year history. The Curve will try to snap the four game skid, and avoid their first five game losing streak since May of last season, Monday when they travel to Akron who has taken four of the last six contests against the Curve. Monday's game is set to start at 7:05. Radio coverage will begin at 6:50 on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.

NOTES: Curve shortstop Brian Friday improved his team best batting average to .667 after going 3-3 Saturday.
