Altman Ends Quest For Third Straight Win
July 17, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
St. George RoadRunners News Release
FULLERTON, CA - Behind his second career complete game effort, Orange County Flyers starter Kevin Altman quieted the recently hot St. George bats to defeat the RoadRunners 5-1 on Friday night at Goodwin Field in Golden Baseball League action.
The right-hander, whose first complete game came a year ago in Utah in a losing effort, scattered one run on eight hits while fanning four. Altman improved his record to 3-2.
Jon Dutton
(3-5) allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits over seven frames in dropping a second decision in his last three starts. The final two innings of hitless action were tossed by reliever Monte Mansfield.
The Flyers struck for two runs in the first after loading the bags with nobody out. Keith Ginter lined an RBI sacrifice fly for the first run. Tyler Keeble took home on the back end of a failed double steal.
Dutton helped his own cause in the visiting second grounding a single up the middle scoring Henry Calderon with what ended up as the RoadRunners' lone score of the night.
OC added a pair of runs off of Jim Goethals' double to right in the sixth inning.
The RoadRunners outhit the Flyers eight to seven, but could not capitalize on opportunities throughout the game with runners on the base paths. Yosvany Almario led all batters offensively with three hits.
The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 6:05pm MDT. RHP Reed Dickert gets the nod for St. George in the opener while lefty Brian Holliday takes the hill in the nightcap. Opposing hurlers include the recently acquired LHP Zach Cline and GBL All-Star RHP Manny Ayala for Orange County.
All 14 innings of regulation baseball can be heard on ESPN SportsRadio 1210AM, 102/107 Cool FM - The Fox and online at Nework1Sports.com with John Potter.

NOTES: Skipper Darrell Evans returned to the helm of the club after missing Thursday's series opener... RHP and former closer Bartolome Fortunato threw a bullpen session during pre-game warm-ups. Pitching coach Travis Wade was pleased with the work and noted Fortunato's change-up is "nasty". Fortunato is not expected to be activated until the club returns home on Monday against Victoria... Jermy Acey was a late scratch from the starting lineup. He was on-deck to pinch-hit in the ninth inning when the final out was committed.
