Flyers win in extras on error

Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers edged the St. George RoadRunners on an extra-inning error for a 5-4 win to wrap up their first half of the GBL season in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Goodwin Field. Doubleheaders in minor league baseball comprise two 7-inning games.

With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth, St. George first baseman Brett Flowers' throw home sailed wide, allowing David Harris to score from third to give the Flyers the win. The RoadRunner error cancelled out a Flyers error that allowed St. George's Jon Dutton to score from first in the top of the seventh when a ball got away from first baseman Derek Perren on an infield single by Victor Buttler, tying the game 4-4.

Orange County overcame an early 0-3 deficit when Sergio Pedroza blasted a three-run homerun (6) with two outs in the bottom of the third.

The Flyers finish off their four game series against the RoadRunners with Game two of the doubleheader, beginning the Flyers second half of the GBL season in their 46th game.
