Victoria Seals News Release
Chico, CA - Hoping to start their second half on the right foot, the Victoria Seals returned to Nettleton Stadium for game two against the Chico Outlaws on Friday night. Sending Andrew Arreola (4-4) to hill for the start, the Seals faced Demetrius Banks (5-1) who was on the mound for the home side.
Much like in the series opener, it was the pitchers dominating play early on. While Arreola went seven shutout innings on the mound for Victoria, his counterpart Banks went eight scoreless frames as the two pitchers combined for just eight hits against.
With the game deadlocked into the bottom of the eighth frame, the Outlaws would finally grab the lead after stranding the bases loaded twice in the game. Back-to-back single from Maikel Jova and Mike Rose off of Seals reliever Aaron Easton set up a two-out RBI single courtesy of Carlos Lopez for a 1-0 Chico lead. One batter later, Pascuel Del Real would provide an RBI base hit of his own to up the home side up 2-0.
Looking for clutch offense in the top of the ninth inning, Victoria had no answer for Chico's Josh Dew, who retired the Seals in order to hand the Outlaws a 2-0 win in game two of this series.
A brilliant outing from Demetrius Banks helped the left-hander improve to 6-1 on the season, while Aaron Easton took the loss to fall to 3-3 for the Seals. A pair of hits from Pascuel Del Real paced the scoring for Chico, while the lone offensive highlight for Victoria was a pair of stolen bases from Wilver Perez, pushing his total to 38 in the chase for the league record (51).
The Seals will try to bounce back with a series win tomorrow night, a 7:00 p.m. (PT) start time for game three of the series. The game will not be broadcast on the Victoria Seals Radio Network, but will be available via online webcast at http://www.justin.tv/chicooutlawsbaseball.
The Seals will finally return home on July 23 to kick off a six-game homestand at Royal Athletic Park. Single game and season tickets for the 2010 campaign are now on sale, available through the Victoria Seals office. Call (250) 220-7777 for more information, or to book your seat today!
