Record Streak Stopped By Scorpions

Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - All good things must come to an end sometime, and for the Edmonton Capitals, sometime was Friday night as the team's sensational 13-game winning streak came to an end with a 5-3 loss to the Yuma Scorpions.
The Caps held a 3-1 lead going into the eighth inning, but they gave up four runs to fall behind 5-3 and couldn't battle back in their final two at-bats, ultimately ending the winning streak that began way back on June 26. They even had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't generate any more runs.
"You hate to say it, but sometimes you need to lose just to remind us that we are human and we do make mistakes," Caps Field Manager Brent Bowers said following the heartbreaking loss. "But we can finally take a breath and be really happy with where we're at. From where we started, to ending the first half winning 13 of our last 14, this is great. We're going to take this momentum right into our next game and the rest of the year."
Despite the defeat, the Caps still made it into the Golden Baseball League record book, as they tied the league mark for consecutive wins and now share the honour with the San Diego Surf Dawgs, who also won 13 straight back in 2005. They also now have the longest single-season winning streak in Edmonton's professional sports history.
Edmonton will attempt to start a brand new winning streak with two more games against the Scorpions to close out the weekend. The teams tangle for the third game of the four-game set Saturday at 7 p.m., and then wrap up the series Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Caps have a full plate of events lined up for the rest of the weekend as well. Saturday is another edition of EZ Rock Saturday Night Movies, as "Rookie of the Year" will be shown after the game on a giant projection screen in centre field. It's also Michael Jackson Night, as the King of Pop's music will be played all night, with many prizes up for grabs.
The first Sunday afternoon game of the 2010 season is a busy one, as Santa is coming to town along with his reindeer to celebrate Sobeys Christmas In July. Also, make sure you bring donations for Edmonton's Food Bank. And after the game, stick around and get autographs from your favourite Caps players for the first Edmonton Sun Autograph Sunday of the year.
The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
