Allen, Moore Combine for 53 Points; Not Enough at Capital City
January 21, 2020 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WASHINGTON DC - Kadeem Allen (27 PTS) and JJ Moore (26 PTS) commanded the Westchester Knicks' scoring, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, but it fell short against the Capital City Go-Go, 116-110, Tuesday evening at Entertainment and Sports Arena.
Both teams played a competitive first half. The Knicks (13-14) were the aggressors in the first quarter surpassing the hosts by as many as 13 points. The Go-Go (13-14) provided an answer in the next 12 minutes logging a 10-point lead to outscore the Knicks by one in the period. At the break, it was a single possession game with the Knicks in front, 59-57. Westchester's 11 turnovers resulted in 19 points for the Go-Go. The hosts committed two fewer miscues, but the Knicks only capitalized seven points.
The Knicks and Go-Go faced three ties and kept the point differential in single digits for most of the third quarter. A three-pointer by Jalen Hudson gifted Capital City its first double-digit lead with 4:08 to go in the quarter, 79-68, since the midway mark of the second. JJ Moore, who did most of his damage in the second half, supplied the answer moments later. Two more makes by Moore in the window would keep the Knicks within striking distance down just six heading into the fourth.
Moore kept his tempo in the final quarter tallying a block, a rebound, a layup and netting a free-throw to complete a three-point play that brought Westchester within one, 88-87 with 9:53 remaining.
Capital City credited a trio of nine-point advantages, the last one with 33 seconds on the clock. Allen brought the Knicks within four twice in waning time. The guard first swished a pair of triples in an eight-second span and then a pair of free-throw makes, following a perimeter foul, with just five seconds left. Misses on the Knicks' behalf and makes for the Go-Go at the stripe put the game to rest.
Moore's 26 points set a new career-high. Allen's 27 marked a season-high for the Two-Way player. Allen also added 12 rebounds and five helpers. Two-Way player Kenny Wooten impacted the defense with game-highs of 14 rebounds and five blocks. Andrew White III made a game-high three treys and ended with 15 points.
For Capital City, Admiral Schofield and Hudson both recorded 21 points. Jalen Jones' double-double was made up of 19 points and 13 boards.
Westchester takes a three-day break before hosting the Maine Red Claws, Saturday, January 25.
