Allen Americans News Release

GAME RECAPS

FRIDAY, JAN. 8 @ TEX (L 3-0): In the sixth meeting between the cross-town rivals, the Americans lost the second contest of the North Texas Vintage Game Series, which commemorates the old time Metroplex rivalries. The Americans donned Dallas Black Hawks jerseys, and the Brahmas wore Fort Worth Wings sweaters. In a game that featured end-to-end hockey, the first goal from the Brahmas' Tyler Skworchinski midway through the second was the turning point of the game. Once Texas got the lead, Allen couldn't find a way to get the puck in the net. Allen is 3-2-1 against Texas. No visiting team has won a game in the season series. The Brahmas snapped the Americans' five-game winning streak. Chris Whitley made 19 saves on 22 shots.

SATURDAY, JAN. 9 @ MIS (W 4-3 OT): The Americans traveled to Mississippi for the first time this year. After losing their last contest to the RiverKings at the AEC, Allen found themselves down after two periods. The club managed to overcome a two-goal deficit to tie the game and then won in a shootout. Christian Gaudet, Tyler Wooddisse and Justin Bowers had goals for the club in regulation, while Colton Yellow Horn, Ryan Fairbarn, and Nino Musitelli scored in the shootout to secure the extra point. Charlie Effinger made 27 saves.

UPCOMING GAMES

FRIDAY, JAN. 15 vs. RPD at 7:30 p.m.: The Americans begin a stretch of six games in nine days Friday by hosting the Rapid City Rush for the first time. The contest will be the first faceoff between two of the top teams in the CHL. Rapid City has a 22-9-1 record (45 points), which has them tied for first place in the Northern Conference.

SATURDAY, JAN. 16 vs. WIC at 7:30 p.m.: Allen hosts Wichita for the first time at the Allen Event Center after Charlie Effinger shut out the Thunder in their previous contest 3-0. Wichita is 3-27-3 (9 points) this year.

All-Star Americans in Game Wednesday: Both Allen alternate captains were named to the CHL All-Star Team for the game that will take place Wednesday, Jan. 13. Justin Bowers was voted to the starting lineup, and Bruce Graham was named a reserve. It will be the first CHL All-Star game for both forwards in their first seasons in the league. The starters were selected via voting done by league head coaches, communications departments and select media members from CHL cities. The CHL All-Star Team is made up of players from all CHL teams with the exception of the Laredo Bucks, the Corpus Christi IceRays and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The Bucks, IceRays and Killer Bees will combine to form the South Texas All-Star Team.

Wrap Up Five-game Win Streak: The loss to the Brahmas Jan. 8 snapped the Americans' five-game winning streak, which was the longest at the time in the CHL. The streak marked the second time the Americans have won five games in a row. The first streak lasted from Nov. 27 to Dec. 5.

Fierce Fairbarn: After Saturday's win over the RiverKings, defenseman Ryan Fairbarn earned his fourth game-winning goal. He is second on the team in game-winning goals behind teammate Nathan O'Nabigon who has five.

Roster Moves: Prior to the Jan. 8 game at Texas, Nathan O'Nabigon was placed on 14-day IR retroactive to Jan. 2. Mick Berge was activated from 14-day IR to fill his vacancy.

Chris Whitley was suspended for the Jan. 9 contest at Mississippi after a stick incident in the game against the Brahmas.
