LAST GAME:

Allen 4, at RiverKings 3 (shootout) (Saturday, January 9th, 2010)

Allen rallied with a third-period goal and then won the game in the fourth round of a five-round shootout. Matt Summers, Louis Dumont, and Ryan Campbell netted goals for the RiverKings. Ryan Held assisted on all three Mississippi goals. The RiverKings had a 3-1 lead in the second period before the Americans started their comeback. Goaltender Kevin Beech took the shootout loss, stopping 25 of 28 shots on goal. Mississippi was scoreless in seven power play chances, while the Americans scored once on the power play and also scored a shorthanded goal.

MISSOURI: The RiverKings this weekend play games five and six of the regular season series against the expansion Missouri Mavericks, but they will be the first-ever meetings in the Mavericks' home building in Independence, Missouri. Mississippi leads the season series 3-1-0 for six points, while the Mavericks are 1-2-1 against the RiverKings for three points. In the teams' last meeting, Mississippi took a 4-3 overtime victory in Southaven on New Year's night. This weekend also starts the first of four straight games against Missouri, as the Mavericks return to Southaven for a pair of contests on January 22nd and 23rd at the DeSoto Civic Center. After this weekend's slate of games, the RiverKings next meet the Mavericks in Independence on February 13th.

MISSISSIPPI LEADERS vs. MISSOURI: Louis Dumont leads the RiverKings in points against the Mavericks with seven points. Dumont also leads Mississippi in assists against Missouri with six and in power play assists with three. Bobby Chaumont leads the team in goals scored against Missouri with five. Dumont, Ryan Campbell and Derek Landmesser each are +4 against the Mavericks this season. Campbell has also scored a shorthanded goal. Adam Smyth has taken 21 penalty minutes against Missouri this year.

MISSISSIPPI GOALIES vs. MISSOURI: Kevin Beech has a record of 2-1-0 against Missouri with a 3.02 GAA and a save percentage of.873.

MAVERICKS LEADERS vs. MISSISSIPPI: Nick Sirota and Mike Burgoyne each lead Missouri in points against Mississippi with four each. Sirota, Simon Watson, and Jeff MacDermid each have scored two goals against the RiverKings, and all of Burgoyne's points have been on assists. Sirota, Watson, and MacDermid each have scored once on the power play. Tom Maldonado is +2 against the RiverKings this season. Kyle Bochek has taken the most penalty minutes against Mississippi this year at 17.

MAVERICKS GOALIES vs. MISSISSIPPI: Alexandre Vincent is 1-1-0 against the RiverKings with a 2.50 GAA average and a save percentage of.918. Doug Groenestege has a record of 0-0-1 against Mississippi with a 3.96 GAA and a save percentage of.881. Mike Gorman is 0-1-0 against the RiverKings, having played just 1:35 of one game this year.

NOTES TO KNOW: Mississippi is 4-1-1 against expansion franchises in the Central Hockey League this season. Against Allen, the RiverKings hold a 1-0-1 record and are 3-1-0 against Missouri.

At home, the RiverKings have a 10-6-2 record for 22 of the team's 38 standings points. Last year, Mississippi was 24-7-1 for 49 points on its way to the Northeast Division championship.

On the road, Mississippi brings a record of 7-7-2 for 16 of the team's 38 standings points. Last season, the RiverKings were 20-10-2 for 42 of its 91 standings points. Mississippi's last road victory was on Saturday, January 2nd, at Tulsa (5-3).

Against the Northern Conference this season, Mississippi sports a record of 11-11-3 for 25 points. The last Northern Conference win came at Tulsa on January 2nd (5-3), the last regulation time loss to a Northern Conference rival was on December 29th vs. Missouri (5-2), and the last overtime/shootout loss to a Northern Conference opponent was December 31st at Tulsa (3-2 OTL).

When scoring first, the RiverKings have a record of 12-4-2.

Mississippi won its first overtime game of the season on New Year's night against Missouri, improving its overtime record to 1-3.

The RiverKings lost its first shootout game of the year Saturday night against Allen, giving Mississippi a 2-1 shootout record for the season.

Mississippi has earned at least one standings point in its last five overall games (3-0-2) and is 3-0-1 in its last four road games. The five-game standings point streak is the best active streak in the CHL.

The RiverKings' have won three games each from Missouri (3-1-0) and defending CHL champion Texas (3-0-0) this season.

Mississippi enters this week in sixth place in the CHL on the power play at 16.8%. On the road, the RiverKings are in a tie for fourth place with the man advantage at 20.8%.

The RiverKings are ranked 12th in the CHL in penalty killing at 82.5%. On the road, Mississippi is tenth in the CHL at 81.9%.

Three of the RiverKings' six shorthanded goals scored have come on the road, while one of the four shorthanded goals have been away from the DeSoto Civic Center.

The RiverKings have the best shootout scoring percentage in the CHL at.462 (6 of 13).

Mississippi has scored an average of 3.18 goals per game and has allowed an average of 3.24 goals a contest.

The RiverKings scoring offensive average is tied for sixth-best in the CHL and the scoring defensive average is eighth in the league rankings.

The RiverKings rank number one in the CHL for shots allowed per game at 29.15.

Entering the week on the road, Mississippi has a record of 5-2-1 when ahead after two periods, but have a 1-4-0 record when trailing after forty minutes. The RiverKings are 4-3-1 when outshooting opponents on the road and sport a record of 0-1-2 in one-goal road games.

Mississippi averages 19.79 penalty minutes per game. The total includes 40 major penalties, one ten-minute misconduct and four game-misconduct penalties.

The RiverKings' 22 shots on goal in the third period of its October 25th 4-3 loss to Wichita is a league season high.

In Friday night action, the RiverKings are 7-3-2 for 16 points.

On Saturday night, Mississippi has a record of 6-4-0 for 12 points.

PLAYER UPDATE

Mississippi forward Adam Smyth is tied for third in the CHL for penalty minutes (130). Smyth leads the CHL in major penalties (14). Adam has 15 penalty minutes in his last three games. Against Missouri, Smyth has scored one goal.

RiverKings defenseman David Simoes is ranked fifth in the CHL and is second among defensemen for major penalties (12). Simoes is ranked fourth for penalty minutes by a defenseman (87). Simoes took five minor penalties in one game on November 3rd against the Texas Brahmas, a league high for minor penalties in one contest. Against the Mavericks, Simoes has scored one goal and has three points. He has one assist in the month of January.

Mississippi defenseman Derek Landmesser is ranked fifth in the CHL for points by a defenseman (25). Landmesser is tied for fourth in the CHL in power play assists by a blue-liner (12). Landmesser also is fourth among defensemen for shots on goal (98) and has scored twice in three chances in shootouts (.667). Landmesser plays in his seventh CHL All-Star Game Wednesday night in Laredo.

Mississippi forward Ryan Held has a total of ten assists in his last five games, a CHL season-high. Held's three assists Saturday against Allen made him the latest RiverKings to earn three helpers in one contest and was the second time in three games he's achieved that effort. The assists give him 20 for the season, part of a 37-point total. Ryan has scored 11 points in his last five games (1g, 10a). Held has two goals and four points against Missouri this year and has one goal and nine points in January games.

RiverKings forward Matt Summers has 15 points in his last 11 games, a CHL season-high. He has not been shut out on the scoresheet since December 11th against Bossier-Shreveport. Saturday's goal against Allen gave him goals scored in his last two games. Summers has four assists in games against Missouri this season and two goals for seven points in the month of January.

Bobby Chaumont's assist on Saturday against Allen gives him ten for the season and 23 points. It was Chaumont's first point since a goal scored against Missouri on December 29th. Against Missouri, Bobby has scored five goals and has six points, but has one assist in the month of January.

Mississippi forward Ryan Campbell has 12 points in his last nine games, the third-best active point streak in the CHL. Campbell's goal Saturday night against the Americans was his third in the last two games and gives him 13 for the season. Against the Mavericks, Campbell has two goals and five points and in January, he's contributed four goals and six points.

RiverKings forward Stephen Margeson chipped in with two assists in Saturday's shootout loss to Allen, giving him three assists and five points for the season. Just recently returning from the injured reserve list, Margeson's assists were his first since he scored a goal against Rapid City on November 6th. Margeson has just play one game against Missouri this season and his two assists Saturday were the first points of the month for him.

RiverKings forward Louis Dumont scored four goals in one game on December 4th against the Colorado Eagles. Dumont scored a goal in Saturday night's shootout loss to Allen, his 12th of the season. It was his first goal since December 20th at Rio Grande Valley. It was also his first point since an assist against Missouri on January 1st. Dumont has one goal and seven points against the Mavericks this year and has a goal and two points in the month of January.

RiverKings goaltender Kevin Beech suffered the shootout loss against the Americans Saturday night, stopping a personal three-game winning streak. Beech is 2-1-0 against Missouri this season, with the loss on December 29th being his last loss in regulation time.

MISSOURI EXTRAS: The Mavericks lead the CHL in major penalties (45), are first in power play goals allowed (43), and in shorthanded goals allowed (9). Missouri is the stingiest team in the CHL in shootouts at.139, allowing just five goals in 36 chances.
