Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that all-star defenseman Jon Landry has been reassigned to the team by Columbus from Syracuse.

The Holy Cross College alumni skated in 37 games for Johnstown this season before his reassignment to Syracuse on January 16. During that time, Landry established himself as one of the highest scoring defensemen in the ECHL with seven goals and 14 points. Landry saw the first AHL action of his career in 11 games with the Crunch where he earned one assist. He was chosen as a starter for the American Conference at the ECHL All-Star Game on January 21 in Reading, but missed the game because he was with Syracuse.

Landry, a native of Lexington, Mass., began his pro career with the Elmira Jackals last season where he had 10 points (2G, 8A) in 18 games. His season was cut short by an injury in a bus crash on November 30, 2007. The blueliner was a standout at Holy Cross where he was a part of an historic upset at the 2006 NCAA Tournament. His Crusaders won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game as a number four seed by knocking off the top-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers. It was the first time in tournament history that a one seed was beaten by a four seed. Landry was named to the NCAA West Regional All-Tournament team in 2006, and was honored as Atlantic Hockey's best defenseman in 2007.

Landry is expected to be in uniform when the Chiefs take on the Wheeling Nailers tonight.
