Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Boise, ID - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Idaho Steelheads met for the first time this season on Wednesday evening. Victoria started Todd Ford in net while Idaho countered with Matt Climie.
The Steelheads struck first on a 5-on-3 power play. Ford was able to stop the Darrell Hay point shot, but the rebound was deposited in behind the Kings' netminder by Garret Bembridge. Idaho would lead 1-0 through 20 minutes.
The Salmon Kings tied the game at 1-1 when Chris St. Jacques and Darryl Lloyd came in on a 2-on-1. St. Jacques moved down the right side and waited for the defenseman to commit and then slid a perfect pass to Lloyd who tipped the puck into the right corner of the net. Idaho would respond when Kris Sparre fired a wrist shot from the high slot and beat Ford over the blocker. Victoria would tie the game back up when Lloyd passed the puck from behind the Steelheads net and found Wes Goldie in the slot. Goldie mad no mistake burying his 43rd goal of the year. Through 40 minutes the game was tied 2-2.
Idaho took advantage of a little puck luck when Kyle Radke's shot from the right point was deflected up into the air by St. Jacques. The puck went high into the rafters and no one could find it. Unfortunately for the Kings it fell in behind Ford and bounced into the net. Victoria poured on the pressure after the Steelheads go ahead goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. Steelheads 3 Salmon Kings 2.
Victoria finished 0/2=0% on the power play, while Idaho finished 1/3=33.3%. The Steelheads out shot the Salmon Kings 38-22.
