Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
HARTFORD -: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Chris Drury announced today that the parent New York Rangers have returned goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to the Wolf Pack, and have reassigned fellow netminder Chris Nell from the Wolf Pack to its ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
Georgiev has appeared in 10 games with the Rangers this season, posting a 4-4-1 record, along with a 3.15 goals-against average and a 91.8% save percentage. He made his NHL debut on February 22 at Montreal, becoming the first Bulgarian-born goaltender in NHL history and the first goaltender of Russian nationality to appear in a game with the Rangers in franchise history. Georgiev stopped 38 of 40 shots he faced in his NHL debut against the Canadiens, establishing a franchise record for saves by a goaltender in his first NHL game. In addition, he became the first goaltender in Rangers history to make 30 or more saves in each of his first five NHL starts.
The 6-1, 180-pounder has appeared in 31 AHL games with the Wolf Pack this season posting a 12-11-6 record, along with a 2.97 GAA, a 90.8% save percentage, and two shutouts. In his last nine AHL appearances prior to being recalled by the Rangers on February 10, Georgiev posted an 8-0-1 record, along with a 1.76 GAA, a 94.8% save percentage, and two shutouts, and he made at least 40 saves in three of the nine appearances. Georgiev also ranked fifth among qualified AHL rookie goaltenders in save percentage this season at the time he was recalled by the Blueshirts.
Nell has seen action in 18 games with the Wolf Pack this year, going 8-8-0 with a 3.15 goals-against average and an 89.2% save percentage. The rookie out of Bowling Green University has also played a total of nine ECHL games in 2017-18, five with the Adirondack Thunder (1-3-0, 3.75 GAA, 88.5% save percentage) and four with the Kansas City Mavericks (3-1-0, 2.50, 90.8%).
The next action for the Wolf Pack is on home ice tomorrow night, Wednesday, March 28, as the Springfield Thunderbirds come to the XL Center for a 7:00 PM game. That is the next opportunity to take advantage of the Wolf Pack's "Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack". The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.
