Rockford IceHogs News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that forward Matthew Highmore has been assigned to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs.
Highmore, 22, was recalled by Chicago on Feb. 26 and scored two goals on 27 shot in 13 NHL games. He made his NHL debut on March 1 at the San Jose Sharks and scored his first NHL goal six games later on March 10 at the Boston Bruins. The forward has skated to a +1 rating with one goal over his last three contests with the Blackhawks.
The native of Halifax, Nova Scotia made his professional debut with the IceHogs this season and tallied 35 points (21g, 14a) in 56 AHL contests to begin the 2017-18 campaign. He was selected to the AHL All-Star Classic in January and later became Rockford's first skater to score more than 20 goals in his rookie season during the team's AHL affiliation (since 2007-08).
At the time of his recall to the Blackhawks, Highmore ranked ninth in the AHL and third among league rookies in goals.
The 5-10, 187-lbs forward was originally signed by Chicago as an undrafted free agent on March 2, 2017. Prior to making his pro debut, Highmore helped lead Saint John to the 2016-17 QMJHL championship by collecting a team-high 89 points and 55 assists. He totaled 247 points (90g, 157a) through five seasons with the Sea Dogs from 2012-17, and currently holds the team's all-time record for career assists.
Next Home Game: Saturday, March 31 vs. San Jose | 6 p.m.
