Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Outfielder Tyler Henson made the most of his first game with the Albuquerque Isotopes (23-14), going 2-fo-4, including a two-run homer, to help lead the "ËTopes to a 5-4 win over the Salt Lake Bees (18-19) on a spectacular Saturday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The victory helps the first-place Isotopes open up a season-high 3.5 game lead in the PCL's American Southern Division.
With the "ËTopes down 2-0 in the fifth, Henson, who was acquired by the Dodgers in a December trade for former Isotopes ace Dana Eveland, was at the center of Albuquerque's comeback. Tim Federowicz coaxed a two-out walk in front of Henson, who smashed a solo homer over the wall in left, his first hit in an Isotopes uniform, that instantly knotted the contest at 2-2.
Albuquerque grabbed its first lead of the contest one inning later, when Josh Fields laced a one-out single and scored two batters later on a towering double off the wall in center by Luis Cruz that put the Isotopes ahead 3-2.
Henson helped the Isotopes to some insurance in the seventh, roping a one-out single to ignite another Albuquerque rally. With Henson on third and Elian Herrera on second, Ivan De Jesus Jr. hammered a two-out double to center that cleared the bases and gave the "ËTopes a 5-2 advantage. Herrera also collected a single in the top of the first inning, extending his team-high hitting streak to 17 straight games, just two shy of a franchise record.
The insurance tallies proved crucial, as the Bees mounted a late comeback. Ryan Langerhans brought Salt Lake one run closer with a solo homer in the eighth that cut the lead to 5-3 and set up a white-knuckle ninth. Closer Josh Wall entered and immediately gave up a lead-off walk to Ed Lucas, who scored two batters later on a double by pinch-hitter Efren Navarro to bring the home team back to within 5-4 with the tying tally perched on second with just one out. Wil Ledezma (2) would slam the door on the Bees, however, coaxing back-to-back fly-outs to preserve the 5-4 win and earn his second save in three games.
Albuquerque will continue its series in Salt Lake with right-hander Will Savage (6-0, 3.22) looking for his seventh straight win while taking on Bees righty Matt Shoemaker (2-2, 6.86). First pitch from Spring Mobile Ballpark is 6:35 PM MT.
After a series in Salt Lake, the Isotopes will return home on May 17 for a 12-game homestand, the longest such stretch of the 2012 season that includes the Celebrity Softball Game, Bark in the Park, fireworks and a bobblehead giveaway. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
