Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres' late comeback fell one run short Saturday, as the Padres lost to the Oklahoma City RedHawks, 6-5. The Padres entered the eighth inning down six runs and scored five times, sending ten batters to the plate in the frame. After Alexi Amarista's RBI groundout, Blake Tekotte hit an RBI double to right, Everth Cabrera drove in Tekotte with an RBI triple and Yasmani Grandal hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to get the Padres within one run. In the ninth, Beamer Weems reached second on an error by left fielder Brian Bixler, but Weems was left on base when Jose Valdez pitched a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.

The Padres were shut down the first seven innings by RedHawks starter Paul Clemens, who did not allow a Padre to reach second base in his seven shutout innings. The T-Pads mustered just three singles against Clemens, who did not walk a batter. Tucson starter Colt Hynes threw well also, allowing two runs in six innings of work. Cory Burns retired Oklahoma City in order in the bottom of the eighth to hold the Padres deficit at one.

Cabrera was 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Cabrera has now surpassed Blake Tekotte's 14 game hitting streak and owns the longest hitting streak by a Padres player in 2012. (Alexi Amarista's 18 game hitting streak began when he played for Salt Lake.) ucaaa_orhaaa_1] Box Score
