Brown Blasts Sky Sox Past Redbirds

MEMPHIS, TN - The Redbirds fell 8-3 to the Sky Sox Saturday night in front of 14,208 fans at AutoZone Park, the ballpark's largest crowd of the season.

With one out and the bases loaded, former Redbird Andrew Brown stepped up to bat hitting a grand slam to left field on a 2-0 pitch in the first inning against Memphis starter Brandon Dickson. The 'Birds were able to tack two on in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly by Matt Adams and a ground out by Steven Hill while closing the Sox's lead to one run in the seventh with a pinch-hit RBI-double by Cedric Hunter.

Redbirds reliever Nick Greenwood took over for Dickson in the eighth, pitching a 1-2-3 inning before getting into trouble in the ninth, giving up four runs, three earned, off a triple by Tommy Field, an error by right fielder Steven Hill and a three-run homer by Wilkin Castillo.

Leuris Gomez earned the win for Colorado Springs blanking the 'Birds over two innings of relief while Edgmer Escalona notched his third save in his 1.1 innings of work. Dickson took the loss for Memphis, allowing four runs on five hits over seven innings while walking two and fanning two.

Memphis and Colorado Springs play tomorrow afternoon with game time slated for 1:35 p.m. The Redbirds will hold Pink in the Park tomorrow, a breast cancer awareness night sponsored by DeVry University. The team will sport pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game with a live auction post-game on the dugout/field including a limited amount of jerseys.
