THIS WEEK: Fri., 10/15 - Albany Devils against Hartford Wolf Pack: 7 p.m. Sat., 10/16 - Albany Devils at Adirondack Phantoms: 7 p.m.
A crowd totaling 5,235 witnessed the beginning of the Devils' era in Albany on Saturday as the puck dropped for the start of the 2010-11 AHL season. Despite a two goal effort by David McIntyre and a tally by captain Stephen Gionta, the Devils lost to the Adirondack Phantoms, 5-3. Looking forward, the Devils play host to Hartford on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Adirondack on Saturday, Oct. 16 also at 7 p.m.
THE WEEK THAT WAS: Saturday, Devils 3 vs. Adirondack 5 Adirondack's Ben Holmstrom registered the game-winning goal with 8:08 remaining in the third period to spoil the Devils' Opening Night. Albany erased two Adirondack leads, but the Phantoms used two late goals to earn a 5-3 win. David McIntyre filled the score sheet for the Devils, netting a pair of goals. Stephen Gionta had a goal and an assist and Tim Sestito earned two assists. Between the pipes, Jeff Frazee made 26 stops.
NOTABLES: Albany County Executive Michael G. Breslin, Mayor Gerald D. Jennings and former Albany River Rat Rob Skrlac dropped the ceremonial first puck on Saturday night ... Including the last two pre-season games, David McIntyre has produced five goals in three games - he had two against Adirondack on Saturday. His two goal effort was the first of his professional career ... Stephan Gionta posted his 46th career goal to go along with his 60th career assist. In a Devils' uniform, Gionta has posted 41 goals and 50 assists and ranks fifth in team history with 91 points ... All-time, the Devils are 3-1-0-0 following a season-opening loss.

NEXT UP: Albany remains at home on Friday, Oct. 15 for a 7 p.m. outing against Atlantic Division foe the Hartford Wolf Pack (1-1-0-0). Hartford opened the season with a 4-2 win against Charlotte on Friday night, but dropped a 4-3 game against Worcester on Sunday. Kelsey Tessier leads the team with four points (2g-2a). He had an assist against the Checkers and two goals and an assist against the Sharks.
The Devils take to the road for the first time when they jump on Interstate-87 and head to Adirondack on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The Phantoms (1-1-0-0) have a busy week with games at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday, Oct. 12 and against Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 15. Entering Tuesday's contest, Patrick Maroon is the team's leading goal scorer with a goal in each of the first two outings.
