October 8, 2010 - Adirondack 1 @ Binghamton 5
The Adirondack Phantoms opened the 2010-11 season, presented by Bud Light, losing to the Binghamton Senators 5-1 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night. Patrick Maroon scored the first Phantoms goal of the season on a feed from Dan Jancevski and Mike Testwuide while Johan Backlund kept the Phantoms in the game early on making 16 of his eventual 44 saves in the first period. Cory Bass, Kaspars Daugavins, Jim O'Brien, Bobby Butler and Patrick Wiercioch did the scoring for the Senators while Mike Brodeur made 27 saves and got his first win of the season.
October 9, 2010 - Adirondack 5 @ Albany 3
The Adirondack Phantoms took the first game of the Times Warner Cable Cup as well as their first game of the season at the Times Union Center on Saturday night by a score of 5-3. The Phantoms penalty kill excelled holding the Devils to 0-for-7 on the man advantage including a 5-on-3 early on in the first period to keep the game scoreless while Adirondack went 1-for-7 on their power play. The Phantoms received goals by Stefan Legein, Erik Gustafsson, Patrick Maroon, UMass-Lowell product Ben Holmstrom whom scored the eventual game winner midway through the third period and Zac Rinaldo. Johan Backlund, after making 44 saves on Friday night, returned to the net on Saturday and got his first win of the season making 26 saves.
Phantoms Honorable Mentions of the Week: (Week 1)
Patrick Maroon- LW- #7 - 2 GP (2 goals, 0 assists, 2 pts), -1, 12 SOG, 2 PIM
The St. Louis, MO native scored 11 goals and 33 assists in 67 games last season for the Phantoms and started the 2010-11 season on the right note. Maroon scored the lone goal in the season opener at Binghamton and then notched another goal in Albany on Saturday night to help the Phantoms win their first game of the season.
