Akron Opens Close Game, Holds off Senators

The Harrisburg Senators scored three runs late Tuesday night but fell to the Akron RubberDucks 8-3. It was a 1-0 game through the first six innings, but Akron scored seven runs over the final three innings. Harrisburg added a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the RubberDucks took game one of the series.

ON CAPITAL HILL

Mario Sanchez went four-and-one-third innings while allowing just one run. He struck out three while walking one and allowing two hits. Despite a 2-6 record, Sanchez has just a 3.47 ERA.

Aaron Barrett tossed a scoreless one-and-two-thirds innings and struck out two batters.

Frankie Bartow allowed a season-high five runs in two innings of work.

Bryan Dobzanski pitched one inning with two strikeouts but allowed two runs.

WITH THE GAVEL

Nick Banks hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth. He has hit a home run in three straight games.

Jake Alu went one-for-four and scored the Senators' first run of the night off a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.

Cole Freeman had two hits.

Gage Canning added two hits.

FILIBUSTERS

The Senators were errorless for the 27th time this season. Adding eight hits in the game, Harrisburg has now raised its team batting average to a season-high .212.

The Senators and Akron RubberDucks play game two of their six-game series Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at FNB Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Radio Harrisburg 96.5FM 95.3FM and 1400AM beginning at 6:10 p.m.
