Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The red-hot Grand Prairie AirHogs did not let another early deficit or some rain get in their way on Wednesday, beating the Kansas City T-Bones 9-5 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark to extend their winning streak to eight games.

Grand Prairie (14-5) fell behind for the second day in a row, as Brian Joynt's two-out, two-run double off Jae Jung (2-1) in the first inning gave Kansas City (7-12) an early 2-0 lead. But Jung worked around five more baserunners in the next three innings to avoid further damage.

After not scoring in the first against Mike Rocco (0-4), the AirHogs scored a run in the second on an RBI single by Guillermo Martinez, scored two more in the third to take the lead on a John Alonso single and an error on the next batter, and tacked on another in the fourth on David Espinosa's two-out double.

The rain, which had been falling on and off since batting practice, got to be too much after the bottom of the fourth, and the game was halted for an hour and 21 minutes.

Jung came back out to the mound in the fifth after the delay to become eligible to earn his win, and promptly pitched his first 1-2-3 inning of the night followed by another in the sixth.

The AirHogs then broke the game open against Aaron Cook in the sixth, with five straight two-out RBI hits - a triple by Espinosa, a single by David Thomas, a double by Greg Porter, a single by Alonso and a triple by Tyler Henley to go up by seven.

Righty Jakob Cunningham made his AirHogs debut with a scoreless seventh inning and Kyle Godfrey did the same an inning later. Bo Schultz finished things up, allowing the trio of T-Bones runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Notes: T-Bones manager Tim Doherty was ejected by third base umpire Kurt Branin in the bottom of the seventh, arguing that a foul ball should have been called catcher's interference. Kansas City pitcher T.J. Large was ejected an inning later by home plate umpire Lance Vaughn for arguing from the dugout...Kansas City stranded 12 men on base, including 7 in the last three innings...Five AirHogs had multiple hit games, led by Henley's 3-for-5 night...Eight of the nine AirHogs reached base safely at least once.

The AirHogs conclude their four-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones at 11:05 a.m. on Thursday, June 2. The next home game at QuikTrip Park is on Friday, June 3, against the St. Paul Saints, with Teacher Appreciation Night ($5 box seats with ID) and Church Youth Group Night.
