
American Association Record Seven Errors Sink Sox 14-10 Versus Saints

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox committed an American Association-record seven errors and gave up a 9-4 lead to fall to the St. Paul Saints on Wednesday night 14-10 in front of 2,487 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Amarillo reliever Corey Bass (0-1) got the loss, allowing four ninth inning runs. St. Paul reliever Kyle Foster (1-0) gets the win, despite allowing an eighth inning run.
Amarillo took a first inning lead on just two pitches as Fehlandt Lentini doubled to left field on the first pitch and scored on a first pitch RBI single. St. Paul responded with three unearned runs in the second inning off three hits and two errors to take a 3-1 Saints lead.
The Sox wasted no time in tying the game as Chris Nash singled to lead off and scored on a towering homerun from Tim Alberts to induce a 3-3 score.
St. Paul took the lead in the third as they loaded the bases with no outs. Richard Mercado grounded into a double play, but the go-ahead run scored to give the Saints a 4-3 lead.
The Sox took the lead in the fourth inning as Lentini doubled and scored on a Tucker RBI single. Cyle Hankerd followed with a double of his own for a 5-4 Amarillo advantage.
Amarillo added two runs off RBI singles from Lentini and Tucker in the fifth inning, while Hankerd hit another RBI double in the seventh and scored on an error for a 9-4 Sox lead.
St. Paul used a big eighth inning to get back in the game. The Saints scored six runs off five hits and three Amarillo errors to take a 10-9 lead.
Pope led off the eighth inning with a double and scored on a Jason White RBI single to tie the game at 10-10.
Bass came in for the ninth inning and allowed four runs off five hits and an error to give the Saints the four-run lead. The Sox could not score in the bottom half to fall to the Saints 14-10.
With the loss, the Sox fall to 7-11 while the Saints improve to 12-6. On Thursday, Amarillo will take on St. Paul for the third game of a four-game set at 7:05pm, with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on Ustream, via www.amarillosox.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
