Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets were held to one hit and dropped their sixth-straight series opener, falling to the Akron Aeros by a 10-2 score Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Gonzalez Germen matched a season-high with nine strikeouts, but allowed six runs in the loss.
After both starting pitchers breezed through the first three innings, the Aeros came alive in the fourth. Tim Fedroff and Chun Chen ripped singles off Germen to start the rally and Adam Abraham capped it by hammering a 1-1 pitch to left for his fifth home run of the season, giving Akron a 3-0 edge.
The Aeros added three more runs in the fifth using just one hit. Akron loaded the bases with a walk, a fielding error and a hit batsman. Tim Fedroff drove a pair home with a single to right and Chun Chen brought one more run in by bouncing into a fielder's choice. It was the final inning for Germen (1-4). He allowed six runs (four earned) on four hits and struck out nine in five innings.
Binghamton collected their lone hit in the fifth. Reese Havens launched a 1-2 offering from Steven Wright over the right field fence for his second homer of the year. The B-Mets added their only other run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Rylan Sandoval. Wright (4-2) allowed just two runs (one earned) on one hit and struck out six over six innings.
Four B-Mets relievers each added an inning of relief. Brandon Moore allowed two runs in his first appearance of the season, Edgar Ramirez posted a scoreless seventh, Erik Turgeon gave up an unearned run in the eighth and Armando Rodriguez allowed a solo home run in the ninth.
Kyle Landis tossed two scoreless innings and Bryce Stowell posted a perfect ninth to cap the game for the Aeros.
The B-Mets (25-27) continue their series against the Akron Aeros Saturday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Darin Gorski takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Paolo Espino. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
